It was in 2010 when John Godsman began writing the Remembering Our Roots newspaper column and book.
It was originally titled ‘Our Seniors … their history’, and in 2012 Godsman joined the Strathmore Times, changing the title, but continuing on with the same storytelling of our seniors and their history.
“As a result of pressure from some of my early customers, the 54 articles written between May 2010 to December 2012, were published in book form in the spring of 2013,” said Godsman. “I have sold over 200 books to date, and am still taking pre-orders. A big thank-you to everyone who purchased a book. To date, I have written over 100 articles and Volume Two of the book will be published in the spring of 2015, representing 52 articles written in 2013 and 2014.”
Godsman wanted to say thank you to all who have allowed him to take a peek into their lives for the articles, which have been published bi-weekly during the past four years.
“However, to reach my goal of 52 articles for the past two years, I still need to write nine more before Dec. 15. These articles are basically biographies and histories of people whose grandparents or parents moved to Strathmore and Wheatland County during the past century or longer, and settled down,” said Godsman. “I invite seniors who lived, worked, married, had families in Strathmore and Wheatland County, who would be interested in having their family history published in the Strathmore Times and subsequent book, to contact me at 403-827-7991.”
