The RCMP are recruiting, and they’re looking for women interested in law enforcement to attend a ‘Women in Policing’ career presentation in Calgary on Dec. 1.
“I think if they’re interested in a career in law enforcement it is a good opportunity for them to go and find out about it, and to learn from other women that have experienced it and gone through and done it,” said Strathmore detachment Staff Sgt. Kevin Reilly.
Currently 25 per cent of the members at the detachment are female.
“We’re always recruiting, we’re like most people nowadays where we’re looking for a few good people,” said Reilly.
This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the first women officers training to become RCMP members. It began with a 32-member female troop in 1974, which has led to nearly 4,000 female members today.
Those who attend the presentation will learn about the more than 150 different types of opportunities in the force, and hear from women who have donned the uniform. A recruitment officer will also be on hand to help answer questions, and explain the process.
The presentation will be held at the RCMP Duncan Building, 7575 8 St. N.E., Calgary beginning at 6 p.m. To pre-register to attend the presentation, call either 403-699-2440 or 780-412-5488.
