The 2014 South Central Zone Junior High track and field competition was held at the Foothills Athletic Park on June 3. Schools from across the county competed, and the weather held up perfectly for the day.
This division, Wheatland, was also responsible for hosting and organizing this year’s event. There were volunteers from Crowther Memorial, Holy Cross Collegiate, Standard and Central Bow Valley schools that ensured the event ran smoothly and was a success.
Crowther Memorial Junior High (CMJHS) sent 81 athletes to zones this year.
“Our school came out 12th overall (out of 66 participating schools) and sixth in our 4J division. Not too bad at all. Our students had a great time and did great in their events. Our school keeps doing better every year and our new track club should help our athletes continue to grow, even with the short track season,” said track coach and CMJHS teacher Brad Huntley.
For the Grade 7 girls, Ijeoma Ojinnaka was first in the 100 metre dash, and second in 80 metre hurdles. Rayanne Laycock was fourth in the 3,000-metre dash.
