Twice a year Shoppers Drug Mart hosts a ladies Rod Hot Gala event as a way to raise funds for different groups, and to get local women out and having fun for an afternoon.
June 7 is the upcoming gala. Tickets are $10 and 100 per cent of the funds raised will be donated to the Strathmore Firefighters Association, and the Strathmore Fire Department.
There will be a minimum of two firefighters on hand for every half hour and they will be “just kind of there, talking with the ladies, ladies like firefighters,” said Wanda Murray, president of the Strathmore Fire Fighters Association, laughing.
There will be makeovers happening, draws, prizes to win, local beauty vendors and goodie bags for everyone. There will also be a silent auction, with the proceeds also being donated, a DJ and a bake sale. Vendors will include Colorwise hair salon, Simply Sugar body sugaring and Fabulashes by Alysha.
“Lots of other stuff too,” said Shoppers Beauty Boutique Manager Allyson Swan.
“Should be a very fun afternoon supporting our local firemen. We like to help out locally, and I know that they (the fire hall) don’t do their calendars anymore. A couple of years ago we had done one with them and I’m sure they could use the help with the fundraising.”
Tickets went on sale on May 21 and can be purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart. The Red Hot Gala will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
