Excited for the change

Justin Steward
Times Reporter
I recently just received my Bachelor Degree in Communications Studies at the University of Calgary and I am very thrilled for this opportunity at the Strathmore Times to display my journalism background to produce stories for the community.
I am journalistic enthusiast who thoroughly enjoys talking to the people of the community about what they admire about where they live and what changes that could be implemented to make it better.
Listening to people talk about what they do in the community for a living or a why they did it really keeps me interested in how a story develops. Subjects such as issues, or a key event shape how I determine what is news worthy and writing about. I am a huge sports fan who is an avid Vancouver Canucks fan and my favorite player is Trevor Linden. Sticking with the British Columbia sports trend, I also cheer on the B.C. Lions. I am also actively involved in sports as I play hockey, enjoy golfing, downhill ski and do water sports. Other hobbies I enjoy doing are hanging out with friends and having memorable times with them. Also, I like to listen country music and classic rock.
What I hope to learn in my tenure at the Strathmore Times is to apply my journalistic knowledge into to a real-life setting and assist the newspaper with what. I know how to generate a quality story. I want to submit articles and photos that the readers will enjoy – and for me as a reporter – something I can be proud of as I parlay the news to the residents of Strathmore and area.
