Discovering Langdon’s past

The Langdon & District Chamber of Commerce is calling all gangsters and flappers to come out for a fun evening on May 31. The chamber is hosting a fundraising dinner, picture show and band at the IOOF hall.
“It is to raise funds so that we can, as a chamber, build a history board sign which will capture the history of Langdon if you will in one spot,” said Gerard Lucyshyn, president of the Langdon Chamber.
The picture show, dance and dinner is an extension of the project, which is a chamber initiative started late last year. It began with the chamber inviting Langdon’s pioneering families to share their pictures and their memories.
“When we started we assumed we would get a bunch of photographs and stories but as more and more seniors and pioneering families have come forward there’s a lot more there than what we had ever anticipated,” said Lucyshyn.
“So we have captured a lot of their pictures electronically and we’re sorting through them, and then once we sort through them we would be inviting them back for another event to kind of tell us which are the milestones, the fundamental pieces that need to go on this board.”
The hope is that the fundraiser will raise enough funds to complete the project. The chamber currently has a conceptual design for the history board, and plans to have it located at the Langdon Park where residents and visitors to the community will be able to enjoy it.
Tickets for the dinner are $50 per person and space is limited at about 100 people. Cocktails will be at 5 p.m., dinner at 5:30 p.m. followed by the picture show and dance. Tickets can be purchased at the Langdon Liquor House and Mountain View Credit Union. Anyone attending is invited to dress up in his or her best 1920s style.
