Braves are tested

Wheatland Braves head coach Keith Klemmensen liked what he saw from his team in a tightly contested 3-1 win over the Taber Golden Suns on Nov. 14 in Gleichen.
“It’s one of those situations where you got a good result and maybe not your best effort, but you still grew that game. Sometimes you win a hockey game without your 100 per cent best effort and you beat a good team – that can show (our) guys that we do have a good team,” said Klemmensen. “On the other hand, I saw stuff that the effort level has fallen because we’ve played some teams that haven’t been a challenge to them. It’s human nature that they’re going to get a way with as little as possible.”
He felt that the local double-A peewee team did keep pushing to produce more offence, but the effort was not there at times in the game.
“I never got the sense that the whole team was giving it a 100 per cent all the time. I had a couple guys, it was their best game of the year,” said Klemmensen.
Goal scorers were Bryce Benfield, Kage Yellowfly and Zach Nicolls.
The Braves next game will be Nov. 22 (4:45 p.m.) at the Strathmore Family Centre versus the Lacombe Rockets.
