Strathmore Ice Warriors

This week brings to a close a very busy one for the Strathmore Ice Warriors. From Sunday to Sunday the Warriors took on four Calgary Teams! It was absolutely amazing. Sunday, Nov 17, the Warriors took on Calgary Roar in an exhibition game. The teams being quite evenly matched seen a very tight first period but seem the little rest between periods brought a whole new Warrior team, and they walked away with a 9-5 win.
Tuesday (Nov. 19) took the Warriors into Calgary, through rush hour traffic and although some may have had travel legs, you wouldn’t have noticed when the Warriors stepped out on the ice to take on home town Calgary Riot. Passes were caught with no problem, precision was seen on the plays and net minder Alex Mackey was a star on Ice. The Warriors came home to Strathmore with a 7-4 victory.
Saturday, Nov. 23, day after a long skill learning practice, the Warriors were ready to take on not one Calgary, but two Calgary teams. Warriors were playing a back to back schedule, seeing the team take on the Calgary Whiplash. It was a very closely matched team, and was only 1-0 after the first period. A little pep talk from the coaches saw the Warriors starting to execute the plays and drills they learned at practice the day before. After the final buzzer sounded, the Warriors stepped off the ice with a 5-2 win.
The day was not over, as the Warriors were to step back onto the ice to take on Calgary Vortex, undefeated in the league so far this year. Because this was an exhibition game only pride was on the line. The Warriors has some power snacks, and when they stepped onto the ice, excitement and determination was buzzing. The fans were not really aware what was at stake, but again pride on the line. When the first whistle blew, the Warriors were on fire. They were executing their drills just like the Coaches (R. Praeker, D. Sevcik, B. Sader) had shown them. On fire the whole game with no hint the Warriors had already played a nail bitter, the Warriors stay home with an 11-3 triumph. It was super exciting to watch.
This week’s goals were scored by: Suzanne Sevcik, Laura Sader, Payton Jensen, Cayley Boschee, Joely Dahm, Cosette Lacroix, Meghan Munchrath, Carly Krahenbil, Jaylin MacLean, Grace Praeker, and Olivia Wilson. It’s not often everyone on the team is in such synergy that everyone got at least one point. Even the affiliate players were on fire, with each scoring a goal: Jorja Duggan and Elle Sauve. Of course the Warriors would not be much of a team without Alex Mackey between the pipes who has been strong and consistent and gives the team many chances to do their best. Great Job Warriors!
This weekend, takes the Warriors to Calgary on Saturday, Nov. 30, and on Dec. 1 come on down to the arena in Strathmore to watch the Warriors take on Cochrane at 9:15 a.m.
