In their season opener, the U14 Strathmore Thunder girls went 4-0 in the Strathmore Thunder Peewee Fastpitch Tournament this past weekend, beating the Red Deer Rage in the final, 16-5.
“I think in the final game we had really good hitting,” Coach Jason Sauve said. “Our pitching was strong throughout the tournament. Everyone played really well actually, the whole squad. And everybody contributed which was great.”
The Thunder blew through the Alberta Warriors and the Coronation Steeelers in Games 1 and 2, but faced the Steelers in the semifinals as well, narrowly beating them the second time, 15-14.
The team has an upcoming tournament in Red Deer come the first weekend of June, and Sauve says they have a few little things to work on: “I think just getting used to a higher caliber of softball. So faster pitchers, and a quicker pace—but they’re getting there.”
