“It’s An Honour,” a cross-Canada traveling exhibit came to Strathmore from Nov. 19-21. The 1,000 square foot vehicle displayed great Canadian stories of those who have been awarded medals such as the Order of Canada, and Decorations for Bravery and Military Valour for their extraordinary achievements.
The exhibit was meant to educate and connect Canadians about the Canadian Honours System, and will be traveling to schools and community centres nationwide over the next two years. Its journey began in August this year, and has gone through Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon, and British Columbia.
Interactive panels, multimedia elements, and artifacts were incorporated into “It’s An Honour,” along with medals and insignia of the unique recipients of the awards. A hologram message from retired Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield was included as well; Hadfield has been awarded the Order of Ontario, the Meritorious Service Cross, and has a Canadian Forces Decoration.
The exhibit also displayed the duties of the Governor General of Canada, and how to nominate people in their community making a difference for national honours.
Follow the exhibit’s journey. It’s a true tribute to women, men, and youth whose achievements, courage, and dedication to service represent the heart and soul of Canada. For more info, visit www.gg.ca/Honours Exhibit or @HonoursExhibit on Facebook and Twitter.
