Don Cuthill, Deputy Mayor of the Village of Standard, is stepping down and not seeking re-election after a decade of dedicated service to the community. Cuthill first went on council in 2003 and replaced Murray Sanderson, completing the second half of a term. Cuthill has been involved in many aspects of municipal affairs. He was the Village representative for WADEMSA (ambulance service) for seven years, currently the representative on the Community Futures Board; Mayor from 2008-2011 but currently fills the position of Deputy Mayor.
When asked why he wasn’t seeking re-election, he simply stated that “it was time to step down and allow new people with new ideas onto council.”
He was excited to be a part of the building of the new water plant and the new subdivision for the future expansion of the community. He enjoyed the ground work with engineers and the development of a 10-year plan for the improvement of the water and sewer lines, as well as the improvement of the roads. He is proud and honoured to have been part of the community and community groups that have been instrumental in building Standard’s new hall, fire hall and the implementation of the beautification of the Village.
Most importantly, Cuthill has enjoyed his 10 years on council and has especially enjoyed working with the past and present councilors, who have all worked together for the good of the Village of Standard. Best wishes for the future and good luck in the upcoming elections for the new council.
