Human remains were found on a rural property on May 13 when the landowner was cleaning up his property for spring. The remains were found near Indus at Range Road 275 and Township Road 232.
“We don’t know what the manner of death is, that will be something that the Medical Examiner will work to determine. However, at this point we simply have human remains,” said Sgt. Patricia Neely, media spokeswoman with the RCMP during a media conference on May 14.
“Our goal at this point really is to identify these remains and try to get some closure for the family members who are possibly missing a loved one.”
Neely said it is too early to determine how long the bones have been there, but added that an anthropologist is examining them as well. The RCMP Special Tactical Operations Team, with the assistance of the Foothills Search and Rescue team did a search of the field to ensure all possible evidence was recovered.
“We’re still waiting for the medical examiner and the anthropologist,” said Neely, who didn’t have any new answers as of press time.
