In honour of the Tour of Alberta coming to Strathmore, the Strathmore Municipal Library is bringing in a new art exhibit.
Elizabeth Verhagen’s 30 Miles Before Breakfast shows her love of both art and cycling. She has travelled a total of 77,406 km, going as far north as Peace River, as far south as Calgary, as far west as Dawson Creek and as far east as Cold Lake.
During her travels Verhagen has carried her art supplies with her and has captured anything and everything she has found eye catching. In the evenings she would stop and make note of things she had seen that stood out to her and various bird sightings.
“When choosing art exhibits for the library, we always look for unique exhibits that will draw on the interests of the community. As everyone knows, the Tour of Alberta is coming to Strathmore on Friday, Sept 6 and we came across an exciting exhibit that ties in with this event,” said Carmen Erison, assistant director of library services.
The exhibit will be on display in the library for the month of September. It features Verhagen’s dedicated sketchbook and travel journal, and invites the viewer to join in vicariously on her 37-year journey of historic recordings, conversations and Alberta’s small town treasures.
