The bantam AA Warriors and their fans are in for a treat at this Friday’s home game. Peter Maher, the voice of the Calgary Flames play-by-play on Sportsnet 960, Harvey the Hound, and two, possibly three to-be-announced Flames alumni will be at the game.
It all began when Maher, an honourary chair member of the Alzheimer Society of Calgary, held an auction on the radio to help raise money for the society as part of their annual walk and run.
“The way it works is I’m going to do the play-by-play like I would a normal game, and the people from Flames Jumbotron have provided a camera and a guy who are going to go out there and videotape the game with my audio on it. Then we’ll produce DVDs that we’ll give to all the players at a later date,” said Maher.
“We hope to make it a good fun night for them.”
“It’d be really good to have a packed house, it would be fun and I’m sure a lot of people would like to see Harvey the Hound and some of the alumni’s,” said Warrior player parent Stephan LeCavalier.
The game begins at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 2. The boys will be playing against the Airdrie Lightning. Reebok CCM has made a donation to the team, and Newalta from Calgary is donating pizza and soda to the players for after the game.
