The Strathmore 8 Ball pool league just wrapped up the season with their annual banquet on April 23.
The pool league has been in town for approximately 10 to 15 years, and many people may not have known it exists.
“It’s a fun Wednesday night, and it’s usually from about October to March,” said Jennifer Jordan, who has been a member for the past five years.
This year between spares and the members, there were 114 people in the league.
She said for the upcoming season they plan to advertise and have a general meeting. The meeting will allow anyone who is interested, but may not have heard about the league, an opportunity to find out more about it. Previously, the league wold call former players to see if they would like to return in the new season. Jordan said they also plan to coordinate tournaments with the new club COOTERS this year on Monday nights.
The league is open to everyone in Wheatland County, but games are only held in Strathmore.
Jordan said when there was inclement weather, the team in Gleichen would make arrangements with the other team to play on another night.
“Everyone plays everyone once throughout the season and then we split the playoff into divisions,” said Jordan.
“It’s really just a fun league, come out and have a good time, and as long as you enjoy pool it’s for you.”
The only requirements are players must be over 18-years-old, and there is a sign up fee of $20 at the beginning of the year. There is also a weekly fee involved. The weekly fee is usually about $10, plus whatever the table costs. Each team only pays for two games out of the four they play. Whichever team racks is the one that pays that round.
“Any monies taken in, with the exception of the $1.25 that goes into the pool table for your game, it all goes back to the players at the end of the year,” said Jordan.
All of the money raised from the sign up fee and the weekly fee goes back into the year-end banquet.
