Residents of the Wheatland Lodge were in for a treat during their annual spring tea on May 14. The unveiling of the new water fountain took place in the afternoon. The fountain was put together with memorial donations after the lodge had saved enough money.
“I had always wanted to have a fountain. So I went to Eagle Lake Landscaping in Calgary,” said Shirley Reinhardt, Chief Administrative Officer for Wheatland Housing.
“I asked them if they would be interested in helping us with this fountain, because I knew we didn’t quite have enough money for what we really, really wanted, and they said ‘of course.’
“It’s Eric Heuver who owns Eagle Lake Turf, he’s from here, and this is something that we sell and thought that the residents would enjoy,” said Lois Wegener on behalf of Eagle Lake Landscape Supply.
“Shirley had always talked about this fountain so I said, come on in and see. Of course Eric was very good about donating money towards it.”
There are two fountains made out of large rocks, one of which weighs over 1,500 lbs. There are coloured lights shining on it and lights where the water comes through, which show better in the evening and at night.
Most of the money came from memorials that are given when people ask for money to be donated to the Lodge in place of buying flowers.
“So it’s memory of a lot of the seniors who have passed away here,” said Reinhardt.
Reinhardt said they wanted to find something that would be big enough for people to appreciate, so they saved the money until they were able to get something really nice. There are also two benches placed on either side of the fountain as a place for the seniors to sit and enjoy it.
