Kings celebrate successful season

The Wheatland Kings concluded their most successful season in franchise history with their annual awards banquet April 2 at the Strathmore Golf Club.
The local junior-B club honoured team members, their coaching staff and numerous volunteers for their hard working during the 2010-2011 season.
Forward Lucas Ford was awarded the Kemstone Rock Solid Player of the Year for accumulating the most three-star selections during the course of the year. The 19-year-old was also recognized as the team’s Leading Scorer with 49 points in just 32 games.
Defenceman Ty Goodeagle was named the Most Improved, while Mike Samoil was named the Most Sportsmanlike.
The Most Dedicated was Siksika’s own Racey Big Snake, who posted 10 goals and 20 assists in just 26 games. Ross Fox was named the team’s Outstanding Forward after recording 17 goals and 14 assists in 25 games.
The team named Mark Goodman the most Outstanding Defenceman and the Players Choice, while contributing three goals and 17 assists. The Unsung Hero was Strathmore native Leslie Doore, who quietly recorded 16 goals and 16 assists in 32 games.
Nathan Voytechek, who posted nine goals and 10 assists in just 15 games, was named the Rookie-of-the-Year, while goaltender Richie Hubbell was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.
The team also announced that they created the Kevin O’Keefe Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded at the beginning of every season.
