“Hurry hard and sweep,” echoed from the Hussar Curling Club during their Funspiel last Saturday.
The family-fun event was organized by the curling club and sponsored by the Chinook Credit Union from Hussar to spark interest in the game for members of the younger generation from the area.
Eight teams, all from Hussar, participated with most consisting of two adults and two kids.
The Funspiel was a great way for members of the community to connect and enjoy playing a great game of curling.
The format allowed for many teaching moments along the way. The games were cut to only four ends as opposed to the regular 10 ends, to keep the kids’ focus and attention span.
The kids involved practiced various methods of throwing the rocks, some of which were humorous to say the least. In this day and age, with importance stressed on exercise and healthy living, this event was a great opportunity for young and old alike.
The Funspiel was just one of several events for the curling club this year.
Hussar Curling Club president Lisa Armstrong said the club “had a great season and actually had three main teams: a Ladies square draw that met in the afternoons, a mixed square draw and a Men’s traveling team.”
This season they hosted a Ladies Bonspiel, a Men’s Bonspiel and will be hosting a Mixed Bonspiel on March 26-April 2.
