Strathmore Minor Ball is gearing up for a new season, with registration finishing up on April 15. This year, for the girls teams, there is one bantam team, two peewee teams, one squirt team and a mite program that just runs in town. Approximately 90 girls are registered.
“That’ll be our numbers probably all the time for a community this size,” said Lanky Johnson, coordinator for the girls teams.
Practice began on April 19 for the some of the girls, and their season begins next weekend.
The boys teams are on par with previous years as well. There are 13 teams, plus nine t-ball teams getting ready for their season.
Steve Wallace, Registrar for Strathmore Minor Ball, said coaches and directors should be contacting parents and players soon.
“I guess the big change this year is the two local bantam teams that…this year we’ve got an additional two teams that are going to play in a local league that is just being kind of put together with Hussar, and potentially Bassano and some of the surrounding towns there,” said Wallace.
There will be four teams in Strathmore playing on Team Alberta teams this year, one from bantam, peewee, midget AA and midget AAA.
“We’re going to try to get it started the first week of May, weather depending of course,” said Wallace.
