STEPHENSON, John (Jack) Byng

John (Jack), beloved husband of Isabel Stephenson of Strathmore, passed away Friday October 15 at the age of 88years. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, five children, Joyce (Bob) Geldreich, Bill Stephenson, Debbie (John) McLaughlin, David Stephenson, and Lorraine Watson; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law Terry Smart, Betty Stephenson, and Audrey Campbell, and many more nieces and nephews. He will also leave many friends and neighbours in Virden, Manitoba and Strathmore. Jack served his country overseas with the Regina Rifles throughout World War II and continued to be involved in the Royal Canadian Legion, #8 Virden, Manitoba and was a life member of #10 Legion Strathmore. Jack enjoyed being involved in his community. He farmed in the Pacific district close to Virden before moving to Strathmore, where he owned and operated the Macleods Hardware Store for twenty-one years. During these years he was busy coaching ball and an active member of the curling club, golf club and the Happy Gang. He was proud to be the first president of Strathmore handi-bus. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 1, 2010 at Strathmore United Church at 2:00 p.m. followed by a luncheon at the Strathmore Legion.  The family would like to thank the staff at Strathmore Hospital Extended Care for their constant support.
