SPEELMAN, John

June 28, 1928 – Nov. 4, 2010

 

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Speelman, beloved husband of Jetta, of Strathmore.  John passed away peacefully on November 4, 2010 in Strathmore, Alberta at the age of 82 years.  He was born and raised in Rhoon, Holland.  After marrying the love of his life, Jetta, they set sail to begin a new life in Canada in 1954.  John was a loving father raising three sons.  He had many jobs throughout his life but his favorite was working for the Western Irrigation District as this job allowed John to get to know so many people from which many long lasting friendships have remained.  John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jetta; sons Simon (Sharon), Art (Margaret), and Randy (Marylou); grandchildren Mandi, Tyler, Calvin, Nathan, Brandon, Jeff, Katie, and Carson.  He is predeceased by his mother, father, and twin brother Rienus.  A special thanks to all of the staff at Strathmore Hospital and John’s friends and family who supported him through his illness.  Memorial services were held on Monday, November 8, 2010 at Strathmore United Church at 1:30 p.m.  All family and friends are invited to stay for lunch at the church following the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Strathmore Hospital (200 Brent Blvd., Strathmore, T1P 1J9).  To send condolences, please visit www.wheatlandfuneralhome.ca.  WHEATLAND FUNERAL HOME LTD. in care of arrangements.  403-934-5666
