Every year the Strathmore and District Playschool picks a local charity or organization to support. This year they chose the Healthy Families of Strathmore and Wheatland County program. The Playschool, which is located behind Westmount school, saw families collecting an assortment of items to donate.
“There were things like a Little Leaps Learning System, board games, Magna Doodles, stickers, colouring books, dolls and walkie talkies,” said Krista Perry, a home visitor with Healthy Families.
There were also toques, scarves and mitts nestled amongst the toys.
Healthy Families is a non-profit organization with trained home visitors who offer their time to visit homes, providing assistance and support to those in need. They help parents formulate parenting strategies, information and ideas to stimulate child development and provide community support, resources and referrals.
“We work primarily with children between the ages of 0 to 6-years-old,” said Perry.
The main goal of the organization is to help parents conquer some of the difficulties of parenting and learn to be the parent they want to be. Healthy Families is dependant on community support.
“We thank all of the Playschool families who showed their generosity, love of the community and Christmas spirit by giving to our program,” said Perry.
