Majority of Strathmore Minor Hockey teams qualify for playoffs

It was a successful season for Strathmore Minor Hockey teams as 22 out of the 23 teams made it to playoffs.
This is the first time in a while that such a large number of the teams have made it to the post season.
“I think it’s great,” said Doug Raycroft, president of the Strathmore Minor Hockey Association.
Raycroft said a few years ago they increased the amount of practices for each team from one to two, and didn’t see results right away, but each year it has increased. He said the number of teams who made the playoffs shows that Strathmore teams are competitive, but at the same time players are able to develop their skills.
“I think it’s a statement that we’re getting our kids into the right tiers, our coaches are doing a great job, our kids our having fun and it’s just a good experience for everybody,” said Raycroft.
He said the younger teams, such as the novice teams, are all doing really well and are all in the top four in their divisions.
“And not just them, it’s just been a really good year for all the teams,” he added.
Going into the playoffs, Raycroft wishes all the teams good luck and for them to play hard and competitive.
“It’s a fun time of year. Games are worth so much, but they’re not the end of the world.”
Playoff games started Feb. 19.
