Rockyford looking for input for sustainability plan

The Village of Rockyford is looking for residents’ input as they begin the process of putting together a Municipal Sustainability Plan for the community.
The plan is designed to provide goals and strategies to improve the quality of life for all residents and identify a future vision for the community.
“Sometimes more heads are better than a few,” said Lois Mountjoy, CAO of the Village of Rockyford.
“What council sees is sometimes not what someone else sees. It’s always good to have brainstorming and review some of these things.” The plan is an opportunity to engage citizens about what they value in the community and to discover new ways of getting there.
The Municipal Sustainibility Plan will address social, economical, cultural and environmental aspects of the community.
It will try to establish how to make the Village of Rockyford a better and more sustainable community in which to live, work and play.
A survey has been sent out to all residents and can also be picked up at the Village Office.
Questions on the survey include: what do you value most about Rockyford; what changes would you like to see in Rockyford right now; and imagine Rockyford in 25 years, what are your hopes, what is different, and what is most important for Rockyford to do to get to that vision.
Mountjoy said the plan would not only benefit the Village of Rockyford, but the surrounding areas as well.
“We’re a community, not necessarily just a village.”
The deadline for surveys is Jan. 31 at the Village’s office so the results can start being reviewed by mid-February.
Mountjoy, however, said that this is an ongoing process and input at anytime would be welcomed.
“This isn’t the end of it. We have at least another five to six meetings on the sustainability plan and then next year we are going to carry on and review it,” she said. “There may be another survey at that point to try and catch up on what we’ve done this year.”
