Hope Bridges spring programming

Hope Bridges’ spring programming is about to take centre stage, with workshops and art related classes offered to all members of the community.
For the past several months, one community project has been to yarn bomb two vintage bikes. The bikes will soon be available for viewing on the bike racks in front of the Leary Centre.
In the meantime, the bikes are still being readied for the road and weather. Once that happens, both bikes – named Go with the Flow and This is my Hot Rod – will be available to rent at $2 per hour.
Those interested in renting a bike can do so by going into the Hope Bridges Studio where they will also be able to get matching helmets to wear with the colourful bikes.
“You can ride a unique piece of custom art. There are no other bikes like them,” said Wanda Reinholdt, Hope Bridges coordinator.
The bikes are being put up for auction at the fourth annual Hope Bridges Wine and Art Auction on April 22, with the proceeds going towards the sustainability of current Hope Bridges programs, such as the community Go Green Upcycling program that created the artistic bikes.
The Go Green Upcycling program is getting ready to start creating spring art pieces such as handmade Easter cards, Moroccan lanterns, button art inside old picture frames, light bulb bugs, tin-can-mobiles, summer welcome signs and plastic bottle garden tool totes.
The projects take place during upcycling class every Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Hope Bridges Studio.
Paint and Refresh is also continuing at Meadowlark Senior’s Care Facility on the first Wednesday of every month, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Coming up on April 5 there will be a special April Showers painting piece for residents to test their creativity, followed by many spring and summer themed paintings in the following months.
The $40 class includes all supplies necessary as well as the two hours of guidance and a Starbucks coffee.
“It is neat to see multiple generations connecting,” said Reinholdt. “Everyone is having a good time experiencing creativity and experiencing each other’s company.”
The ever popular Sing your High Note will return on April 5. The program takes place on the first and third Wednesday and on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month from 1:15 to 2:30 p.m.
“It is a music therapy program where all generations get together and sing their favourite songs,” said Reinholdt, who added that everyone gets the chance to pick a song to sing.
