New electoral boundaries

Wheatland County and district saw its federal electoral boundaries change to the Bow River constituency for the last federal election.
For the 2019 provincial election, preparation is underway to again change some of the 87 provincial electoral constituencies.
With an influx of 20 per cent or more people to the province, a restructure for fair representation is in the works.
“One of the concerns for rural Alberta, or areas that haven’t grown as much, is the huge increase in population percentage wise, of Calgary and Edmonton. They may have two or three more electoral boundaries alone. So, it may be less rural or more urban,” said Alan Parkin, chief administrative officer (CAO) with Wheatland County.
Public hearings are being held in 15 communities between mid-January and late February. Stakeholders are also able to provide comment through written submissions.
