Northam (nee Sanderson), Hilda May
August 7, 1941 – January 5, 2017

Hilda May Northam (nee Sanderson) passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the Strathmore Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 75 years young. Although her husband Francis Lloyd is heartbroken, he rejoices with us that she is now at peace – resting in the hands of our Lord. Hilda faced her final days with humour, patience and great courage, surrounded by family and friends. Ask anyone and they will tell you that Hilda was a kind and loving person. She looked after others, often without the other person being aware of this special gift. She really liked to be in the counting room at casinos paying great attention to details. Hilda had a special place in her heart for animals and she had several cats and dogs over the years. Marbles the cat is forlornly looking for her ‘mother’ to come home. Hilda loved to listen to the old time big bands as well as the music from the Maritimes. Hymns such as Amazing Grace provided much comfort and strength throughout the years. Hilda was proud to be the Vice President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Ladies Auxiliary Chapter 3475. She especially looked forward to attending the meetings and enjoyed the variety of service projects that were undertaken. Bowling was another pleasure that she shared with Lloyd. No matter her final score, she was always laughing about the game, taking great pleasure in the company of her team-mates. Hilda was predeceased by her parents and her three brothers Russel, Gordon and Lloyd. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Francis Lloyd, her nephew Bruce (Kathy), niece Jodi, and many extended family members and friends. The family thanks the staff at the Strathmore Hospital for their care and support of Hilda on her final journey home. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 7-9 p.m. at Strathmore Alliance Church (325 First Avenue, Strathmore, Alberta). A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Strathmore Alliance Church at 10:00 a.m. No flowers please. If desired, donations can be made directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association (#204, 2323 32 Ave. N.E., Calgary, T2E 6Z3) or the Alberta SPCA (10806 124 St., Edmonton AB, T5M 0H3).
