Shavasana at Gleichen Library

Any ladies, flexible or otherwise, are invited to participate in a self-directed morning yoga session on Thursdays at the Gleichen Library.
“We don’t have an instructor and we are mostly mature women, so we start with breathing, move on to some gentle isometrics for toning and stretching, and then do a few yoga moves just to say we did,” said Trish McLeod, manager of the Gleichen and District Library.
The class was an idea to have a ladies’ workout option available to local women interested in stretching and getting in shape as there are many other fitness destinations in town.
“None of us are super bendy. We like to finish up with shavasana, at which we excel,” said McLeod. “It is in the library on Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. sharp. I lock the door then, so don’t be late.”
Those who are interested in participating in the class may call McLeod for more information at 403-734-2390.
The Gleichen Library hours are Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Membership fees are $5 for children age 12 and under, $10 for a single person and $15 for a family membership.
There are computers for use for members and non-members (preference is given to library members) and free Wi-Fi for customers’ own devices. Printing and outgoing fax services are also available.
On Tuesday nights from 4 to 6 p.m. and on flex Fridays, the library hosts Tween and Teen Game Night. Kids can play games or cards, or just hang out in the Library.
The library is accepting book donations for “5 for Life,” an early childhood development coalition that promotes positive early development in children. Those interested can donate books into the book drop-off bin in the library.
Interested in having your child participate in a pre-school reading period for half an hour once a week? The library is looking for interested people to call the library at 403-734-2390 so that a program can be set up. With enough interest, the 30-minute program will include a story, a small craft related to the story, juice and a cookie.
