The second annual Halloween Spooktacular is set to provide some spooky fun for children of all ages on Oct. 28 at the Strathmore Municipal Library.
The event, which runs on a drop-in basis from 1 to 3 p.m., will provide five different stations for children to visit with a variety of Halloween-inspired activities. There will also be a Halloween costume contest at 2 p.m.
Carmen Erison, assistant director of library services, said children should come in their Halloween costumes.
Library staff will judge the costumes and help to “carve out some good memories because it’s going to be a spooky good time,” she said. “There will be all sorts of creepy, fun activities.”
The theme includes a variety of different tables and activities, and children will receive a Halloween scare book they can get stamped at each station. After this, their names will be placed in a prize draw.
A spider toss as well as crafts for all ages will be provided for all different levels of ability, including young children.
Erison said the event is sure to be popular based on last year’s success.
“I think we had about 100 kids come through and it was a blast,” said Erison. “We had a creepy station where you had to feel things underneath these bowls, we had dirt cup snacks and everything that you could possibly think of.”
The library has embarked on a campaign to offer free programming, along with programs offered during school professional development days.
Erison said there seem to be a lot of professional development days at local schools, and the library recognizes that a lot of parents work and children may be looking for something fun to do on these days that “gets them out of the house.”
Library staff will be dressed up and ready to celebrate Halloween on Oct. 31, and invites everyone to come and enjoy the day at the library.
Next up, the library will be sending out information about its popular Ginger All the Way program to help celebrate the Christmas season.
