New nighttime market offers more

Reesa and Cameron Bruce will be opening up a new night market at the Strathmore Golf Club, starting Nov. 9.
Reesa Bruce said the majority of interest for the new market came from the current Strathmore Farmers’ Market. She said she started hearing feedback that people wished the farmers market could continue on throughout the winter.
“It’s great to see people showing up at the farmers market on a weekly basis to have some lunch or some coffee with their friends,” said Bruce.
She said the new market will provide a nice little outing and give something fun for people to do in the winter.
The Bruces are not worried about filling space at the new nighttime market.
“We’ve had lots of interest and we’re actually getting a bit nervous about having enough space for all the interest that we’ve received,” she said.
Customers will be able to shop from a variety of vendors, and vendors will change from week to week.
“We’re allowing some flexibility,” said Bruce.
Some vendors will be coming from Calgary.
The golf course has a chef who will offer fresh baked goods as well as some meals that are fresh or frozen to take home.
Some other featured products at the nighttime market will include art products, Mary Kay products, jewelry, clothing vendors and Tupperware. Bruce is hoping to get some local authors there as well.
“The food part of it is just going to be a small portion. There’s going to be a lot of other types of vendors,” said Bruce.
The market will include vendor and client contests and draw prizes, and there are plans to install a little free library. There will be “a little bit of something that makes it rewarding for people to come out on a cold winter’s night,” said Bruce.
There will be three options for vendors to rent space at the new market. The costs will be $15 for a small table, $25 for a large table and $30 for rack space. The market will go on Wednesday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Bruces started selling medical marijuana through their company Endeavour More Living at the Strathmore Farmers’ Market last May. Each week they found themselves very busy and thought, “we really need to keep going with this,” since many people started depending on them to be at the market.
“It’s just been a huge success for us. So now they’re [customers] pretty excited that we’re going to be at the night market throughout the winter,” said Bruce, who added the golf course will provide “a nice, cozy ambience during the winter months and was immediately supportive and enthusiastic” about the market idea when originally approached by the Bruces.
“They’re really on board with this and they’ve been great to work with,” said Bruce.
