Playing in their first road game in school history, the Holy Cross Collegiate Hawks were stunned by the J.C. Charyk Hawks 77-13 in Alberta 6 Man Football League action last Friday (Sept. 23) in Hanna, Alta.
“J.C. has a strong program with large number, big players and a lot of experience. They showed us what a top program is like,” said Hawks head coach Michael Annicchiarico.
Hawks running back Jayden Hendricks registered both touchdowns in the second half and Zach Cull hauled in the 1-point conversion reception.
The Hawks have plenty of time to hit the practice field and put that loss behind them. With a bye this week, Annicchiarico and his staff are going back to the basics of tackling and blocking at practice.
Exiting the bye week, the Hawks fly to Central High Sedgewick Public School to take on the Rams Friday, Oct. 7.
The HCC Hawks next home game is slated for Friday, Oct. 21, against the Our Lady of Mount Pleasant Royals of Camrose.
(Ed. Note: The game score reads 43-13 on the Alberta 6 Man Football League website, site1946.goalline.ca. The league stops counting the winning side’s points once a team has a 30 point lead to prevent teams running up the score.)
