Strathmore was the host town for the Midget AA Tier 1 provincials July 29-31 at the Kinsmen baseball diamonds.
While the Strathmore Midget AA Tier 1 Reds team took part in the event, they didn’t fare well in the round robin, leading them to miss out on the playoff round.
“It didn’t go so well,” said Willie Mulligan, the team’s coach. “A lot of things went wrong, we didn’t want to hit the ball very well and we didn’t make the outs that we needed to.”
There were eight teams entered into the provincials and the St. Albert Cardinals went on to win the event.
The Strathmore Reds played three games in the round robin, taking on the St. Albert Cardinals, the Leduc Giants and the Camrose Cougars Red.
Mulligan explained that the team has made great strides since the beginning of the season and he has seen an improvement in players’ attitudes.
Many of the players will be returning next season, and Mulligan said they will practice hitting, with hopes of improving their game next year.
