The Foothills Advocacy in Motion Society (AIMS) will once again be hosting the Chinook Financial Tight and Bright Family Run on Aug. 20.
This year they are hoping for more participants to come out and support the cause while having a bit of fun. The run is done in support of the people that AIMS helps in the area while trying to get the society more visible to the community.
“We have decided this year the run is going to be more on participation,” said Melissa Schayes, the organizer of the event. “It’s about getting people in the community participating in this run and seeing who the people we support are and what they do in the community. That is our most important thing: get connected with the community, with the people that we support and get them to know the people out there.”
This visibility is one of the reasons why this year’s theme is “Tight and Bright.”
Participants are encouraged to wear their tightest and brightest clothing for the run, and runners of all ages are invited to have a go. Participants will have options on distance, too: there is a 10 kilometre run, a five kilometre walk/run and a two kilometre kids run. There will be a number of prizes including one for best dressed.
In past years, the race has had about 60 participants, but Schayes would like to increase it to at least 100 participants. This will be the event’s seventh year running and it will be the first time Schayes is in charge of it.
“We just want to get more people into the run and to connect with the community,” she noted.”
