A family affair

After observing a lack of family orientated events in town on a Friday night, Brian Murphy has decided to do something to bring some fun to Strathmore.
The registered DJ decided to host three all-ages dances in August and he also plans on giving some of the money from the admissions cost to a different charity each night.
“I am family orientated and I always have been,” said Murphy. “I have three daughters and a boy and I thought why not? I am a DJ and it is something a family can come out and do together as a family. At the same time it is for charities.”
Murphy hopes to get some of the charities involved in the dance as volunteers. The first organization that Murphy would like to donate to is the Youth Club of Strathmore, followed by the Food Bank and Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart program.
The dance will be held at the quonset at the Strathmore and District Agricultural Society grounds, and will feature music and refreshments for families looking for something to do together on a Friday night.
Murphy said one of the main selling points behind the whole event is the admissions price, as adults will be able to get in for $3, youth for $2 and children under six are free. He believes this will help to encourage people to come out, as they will not have to spend a lot of money on a night out.
If the dance parties are successful, Murphy would like to continue hosting them, with the hope of them growing into larger, regular events. The family dances will be held on August 12, 19 and 26, from 5-10 p.m.
