The Town of Strathmore’s Downtown Revitalization Committee’s latest project was months in planning, but took only a matter of days to materialize at the southwest corner of 2nd Avenue and 3rd Street downtown.
The area, re-landscaped with new grass and trees, includes two new flower pots, and a red bench.
“Red furniture is the signature of the Downtown Revitalization Committee’s projects,” said Linda Nelson, Deputy CAO for the town. “This is this year’s project, with the parking lot behind it scheduled to be paved in mid-July.”
The Town’s Sustainability Committee also had a hand in the project. When the land was cleared of the existing grass and rocks, it was refilled with a mixture of topsoil and compost, donated by Huxted Waste and Recycle.
The Sustainability Committee looks for ways to help the town reduce, reuse and recycle.
In this case, items like yard clippings and food scraps, which would have previously ended up in a landfill, were instead dropped off by Strathmore residents for composting and used to help create this downtown oasis.
