The Town of Strathmore recently purchased the Rattray Reclamation Ltd. building for $1.1 million during the June 15 auction of the property.
The building will be repurposed to house the Strathmore public works office and its equipment.
“We were in discussions and private meetings for about a month and a half,” said Strathmore Coun. Steve Grajczyk. “The decision was made because the building that holds the public works and several other departments is very crowded and it was inefficient for them to work when you are very crowded like that.”
The current building public works is housed in is about 40 years old and needs work. The Rattray Reclamation building is 8,000 square feet in size and sits on two acres of land. It also houses a small office and a hoist, both auctioned separately, which will be utilized by public works.
Once the sale has been finalized, it will be up to administration to decide what equipment will be stored there and how it will be set out.
