U12 and U10 soccer teams from Strathmore, Chestermere and Langdon came out to play a few games while having fun with friends, during the Canal Links Soccer Federation’s District Wind-Up Tournament held on June 18 at the Ranch soccer fields in Strathmore.
“June is the end of our season, so we brought all six U12 teams and all six U10 teams together for just some fun and it has gone great,” said Laurie Stephens, the administrative coordinator for Strathmore minor soccer.
The event had the 12 teams play a series of round-robin games against each other. While the games were the main idea behind the day, there were a few other activities to keep the players entertained between games. Chestermere lent their radar gun and a net to see how hard and fast the players could kick the ball into the net. To help combat the heat, a water truck was brought in to help fill up water guns that were used in a fun water fight. There was also a tug of war for players to test their strength against their friends.
Dave Mackie, U12 Strathmore District 1 coach, had his team play during the day, and while he was worried about how the heat was affecting his players, he was happy with their results.
“The main thing is that the kids have fun,” he said. “And then there is the social aspect that they have fun with their friends and stuff like that and they also get a chance to get some exercise too.”
