Reuniting old friends

The Samuel Crowther High School class of 1976 is celebrating the 40th anniversary of their graduation on July 16, and this year they are inviting the classes of 1973 to 1979 to party with them.
The class of 1976 has their reunion every five years, and the classes of 1972 and 1980 have both had theirs in the past few years.
“Some of the other grades could never get enough people to warrant a reunion,” said Rhonda Stockwell, one of the organizers of the reunion. “So I just took the grades in between and said ‘let’s invite everybody.’”
Stockwell is hoping for about 200 people to make it to the event, and so far about 100 have signed up for the celebrations. The event will allow old friends to share stories about the past while enjoying some live entertainment during the dinner buffet. One of the entertainers is former student Linda Edwards, who will perform her stand-up comedy act about school, farm life and work.
The reunion is not just for former students: former teachers from the school have been invited too. So far 10 teachers have agreed to come.
“It will be nice to see some of the old gang,” said Al Brown, former mathematics teacher from Samuel Crowther High School. “I taught for 25 years and I was there when that group was.”
The reunion will take place on July 16 at the Strathmore Royal Canadian Legion No. 10 branch starting at 2 p.m.
