A rising football star

Strathmore has produced many good athletes over the years and Reid Jensen is no exception.
The 14-year-old Holy Cross Collegiate student previously played for the Strathmore Badgers football team. Despite only playing for a few years his talent has already begun to shine.
“This is my third year playing football,” said Jensen. “When I started I found out that I was good at football and this is the first year I have left Strathmore.”
Jensen joined up for the Airdrie Raiders football winter camp, which takes players in Grades 9-11 and teaches them to further their skills. Jensen who described himself as a pretty diverse player acted as quarterback and wide receiver while he has been playing wide receiver and safety in Airdrie. He has seen improvement in his game and Airdrie’s Coach Steve Kemp attested to this.
“He instantly stood out among the Grade 9s and we liked what we saw,” said Kemp.
“As the camp went on he started out working the senior guys and earning a spot.”
Every week Jensen drives down to Airdrie for practice but he is thankful for the opportunity that the team and coach has given him.
As Jensen continues to play for the Raiders, Kemp hopes that he will grow into a leader for the team.
“I can definitely see him being a leader for us moving forward and really hope he is a leader for us,” said Kemp. “I mean if his play keeps growing and if he becomes more comfortable around the guys then I think he could be a good leader for us.”
To get such praise from his coach meant a lot to Jensen who sees himself as a leader both on and off the field. Jensen would like to take his football career to the pros perhaps getting a college scholarship, which will open up more opportunities for him in the future.
