The Strathmore Badgers peewee football team took care of business en route to winning the B Finals 80- 34 over Innisfail on home turf Nov. 7.
“It feels good, the kids deserved it,” said head coach Clinton Bean. “They really grew from the start of the year until the end, grew as a team and grew individually. The team that played here today, it’d be nice to take on some teams in there from earlier in the year to see how they do.”
According to Bean, the kids bought into the team’s systems on both sides of the ball. Once they succeeded at it, it became an enjoyable experience right to the final whistle.
Despite not having a lot of adversity in the contest, there were areas that could have been improved upon for the future.
“The kids kind of stepped back a bit,” said Bean. “When you step back in football it’s tough. You can get hurt, a few kids started to get hurt. A couple of plays we needed to call in there and get a few touchdowns just to get the kids back interested in the half.”
Bean did praise Innisfail for having a great team despite playing with a short bench.
