Fun skill development

The 2015 #1 Hoops basketball program is shaping up to be another enjoyable one for young players in the Strathmore area.
“This year is the same as all years, kindergarten to Grade 3 will be the one session and then Grade 4-7 in the other,” said Shantelle Gieck, head coach of the program.
“There will be an hour of skill and then in the last half hour they’ll put their skills to the test in a game,” said Gieck. “We’ll have new games and a couple new coaches which is exciting. We already have lots of kids signed up, just from returning players.”
The new coaches will use their knowledge to help the kids along with skill development.
“I have six new coaches and like to have many as possible just for one-on-one, the kids love having them,” said Gieck. “(For) them to learn the game of basketball, the rules, how to behave on and off court. I’m a big believer in respect for the parents, teammates, even if you’re sitting on the bench waiting to go on, you know how to act.”
The fee for the program is $98.95 and it covers the court time, water bottle, jersey and basketballs the players get.
The camp will begin on May 4 and goes until June 22 at the junior high school. Deadline for registration will be April 20.
Players can register by contacting Gieck at 403-660-3896 or her e-mail (basketball1hoops@gmail.com).
