Each year Canadians across the country flock to Tim Hortons locations at the first sign of the Roll Up the Rim contest. Everyone hopes to win big, but even just winning a coffee or donut can make a person’s day.
On Feb. 17 Scott McKirgan went to the Tim Hortons location here in Strathmore by the Shell Gas Station.
He bought his usual regular medium coffee and continued on to work in Calgary.
“I got to work, had my coffee, filled it up again, had another coffee and then around 10 a.m. I found out I won,” said McKirgan.
His winning cup revealed that he won the Grand Prize, a 2015 Toyota Camry.
“I was just ready to walk in the shop when I rolled it up. The blue arrow I rolled up first and I didn’t win, so I rolled up the other side, it said win, I’m like ‘oh, what did I win’ and then it said Camry and I was like ‘Oh my God I won a car’.”
McKirgan said everyone in the shop at his work could hear him, and his excitement at winning. Tim Hortons states it will be six to eight weeks before he will actually have the new car. In order to claim the prize he has to register mail the winning tab to New Brunswick and is now waiting for a response. Tim Hortons was not available for a comment as of press time.
