The Cheadle Community Club had requested of Wheatland County to provide tax-deductible receipts for charitable donations, but as a result have to follow the income tax guidelines.
Another request was made for the county to setup an account to collect and monitor the donations on behalf of the Cheadle Community Club.
Cheadle is hoping to benefit from these tax receipts because it will allow for not only larger donations to come in from citizens and businesses of the community, but to allow for more services to be available.
“They had made a request (because) they’re doing a fundraiser. What ends up happening because they’re not a non-profit (group) is that they can’t issue tax receipts,” said Alan Parkin, Wheatland County Chief Administrative officer.
“Donations will come directly to the county, we’ll do a tax receipt and then give a cheque back to Cheadle. It’s just a flow through to issue tax receipts.”
The tax receipts will be beneficial because the Cheadle Hall, as well as the ball diamonds, playground and rink, is operated on donations.
The facilities were solely operated on the general public’s money before the request was made.
