Applications are available for Strathmore FCSS’s 2015 grant funding.

The amount being allocated for the year has not been determined yet, but it has been around $20,000 to $30,000 over the past couple of years.

The maximum amount a group can apply for is $5,000 and the reasoning must meet the mandate of FCSS.

“If the programs don’t need $5,000 then they can apply for $2,000, or a $1,000 whatever,” said Catherine Walsh, FCSS coordinator.
“Basically FCSS’s focus is on preventative initiatives, and that’s straight across the province, the community’s design and deliver social programs that are preventative in nature to promote and enhance well being among individuals, families, and communities. So as long as the programs applying meet that, that would be a main focus of our boards decisions.

“It also depends on what the community needs. It’s up to the discretion of the board, and the board is made up of different community members.”

In the past Growing Families Opportunity, Golden Hills School Division, ROE, 5forLife, Step One Housing, Community Crisis Shelter, and Accredited Supports to the Community, to name a few, have been granted funds. New projects are also encouraged to come forward with their applications.

The application deadline is Oct. 16, and the form can either be picked up at the FCSS office, or printed from the Town of Strathmore website at www.strathmore.ca.
