At the Sept. 3 council meeting Councillor Rocky Blokland requested an expense report on the use of the booth at the Strathmore Stampede. He made it clear he was not questioning who was in the box or why, he just wanted full financial disclosure of the expenses of operating the box.
“It has been brought to my attention this year, and the last two years, by various citizens in the town concerning the cost of operating the Town of Strathmore Heritage Days box in the grandstand. I can answer some of these questions, but I can’t answer all of them,” said Blokland.
He asked for a full cost disclosure to be brought forward, outlining the food and beverage expenses, the box rental, wages and any other expense related to operating it. He also wanted to know how many years the town has had the booth at the rodeo. Once he has that info Blokland said he plans to address the matter further at a future council meeting.
Councillor Brad Walls excused himself from the discussion to avoid conflict of interest.
Museum gets a name
The museum committee has officially determined the name of the museum, said Mayor Michael Ell at the Sept. 3 council meeting. The official name will be the Western District Historical Society.
The society has submitted their application for society status. Once society status is obtained they will be able to move forward with further planning. In the meantime donations to the society are tax deductable, and can be made through Wheatland County.
Ell said citizens are expressing interest in the society, and he feels there are many positive indications the museum will be successful.
