Arthur Bergquist was born in Calgary Alberta on June 27, 1923. His father homesteaded a farm in Carsland, Alberta, Canada where Arthur grew up. He was the youngest of six children. He went into the Canadian Air Force at 17 years of age.
He was married to his first wife Eleanor from 1946 until her passing in 1979. Arthur graduated from the University of Alberta as a Petroleum Engineer. He worked for Canadian Superior Oil in Calgary AB and Lockheed Offshore Petroleum in Vancouver, BC and Houston, TX. His career took him to almost every continent in the world. Arthur’s three girls have been his delight. They are Sharron Eshpeter (children: Jordan/Elizabeth, Travis/Jillian, Chelsey) Gwen Bergquist, and Diane Kurtenbach (husband Ken). Arthur had an appreciation for music and was a beautiful piano player. He also loved nature and going for long drives in the country and always enjoyed a spectacular view.
Arthur and Berta have been married for 33 years. When he married Berta he became a loving stepfather to Berta’s three children. They are Heather Roberts (husband Wayne; children: Diana Lange, Meagan/Andrew Birch, Lyndsay/Jesse Ratson), John Davison (wife Donna; children: Tina, Freddie), Patty Muhlert (husband Ted; son Quentin/Stephanie). They also have 9 great grandchildren. Right from the beginning Arthur and Berta’s lives became an adventure. Arthur’s work took them to Israel for one year and then to Denver, CO. They spent 10 years in full time ministry with Youth With A Mission and took outreach teams to the Philippines and China.
Arthur was one of the founding members of North Sound Church in Edmonds, WA where he enjoyed serving as an elder on the board for 7 years. His gift for teaching was evident in the Bible Studies he led and the people whose lives he invested into over the years. His passionate love for Jesus and faithful witness to others never wavered even through his battle with a fractured leg, hip replacements and prostrate cancer. Jesus took him home peacefully on June 3rd, 2013.
Loving husband, faithful father, dearest friend and will be missed by all.
“Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life”.
