Jake DeWit, of Strathmore AB, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away at his home at the age of 64 years.  Jake was born in Holland, the oldest son of a family of eight children. From a young age he worked on the family dairy farm which lead to his lifelong passion for farming. After attending Agricultural school he worked on the family farm until he crossed the ocean to start a new life in Canada in 1976.  His first year was spent in Sicamous, BC with relatives and after a year he moved to Alberta to realize his dream, operating dairy farms in Okotoks, Wetaskiwin, and Carseland. In 1979 he married Cheryl Jones and together they raised three children. Later in life, Jake went into the trucking business, hauling grain and cattle for a variety of clients.  Jake had a huge love for his family. His wife, children and grandchildren meant the world to him. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and is lovingly remembered by his children: Bruce (Jamee), Krista DeWit-Wright (Scott Wright), Ceri (Dave) Schraa; four grandchildren: Mackenzie, Grace, Logan and Taylor; brothers and sisters: Elza, Johan, Petra, Willem, Christina, Peter. Jake was predeceased by his parents, Jakob and Petronella; sister Mennie and brother in-law Joop.  Services were held at the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on March 13th, 2013.  Memorial donations in Jake’s name may be made directly to one’s choice.  To forward condolences, please visit: www.mountainviewmemorial.ca
