Lynn Walker, coordinator for WFCSS ,is setting up meetings with rural residents to gather information on their community expectations and needs.
“The government can’t be everywhere,” said Walker. “The province gives money to local partnerships such as ours and we use that money to meet needs.”
She said that municipalities help by supplementing those funds with a per capita supplement.
Walker said programs delivered in the past, such as home care support and liaisons with local programs, are still in place and ongoing. Walker talked about the success of the women’s and senior`s conferences last year. They intend to continue both as a yearly event. The grant processes are also continuing, and anyone wanting information on those can contact the office, which is open Monday to Friday 9 am to 4:30 pm. The Resource Centre is also located in the main office, housed in the Wheatland County office building. She invited everyone to check out the various program pamphlets displayed there.
“The coffee is always on and everyone is welcome,” said Walker.
WFCSS is working with representatives in the various rural centers in Wheatland County and the County Disaster Services manager, to set up an Emergency response plan for rural areas. She said gathering information for this will be included in the upcoming area familiarization and communication sessions.
“We want to find out what resources are available in each area, in case we have to go there,” said Walker.
She extended her thanks for the support of Council and assured them she would keep them advised as the Emergency Response program developed.
