The Wheatland County Food Bank is moving forward
Wheatland County Food Bank
The food bank in Wheatland County is a charitable organization dedicated to helping people during a crisis. The enthusiasm, commitment and compassion of the staff and volunteers who work to provide quality emergency food for those in need is critical for the existence of the food bank.
Our Mission is the belief that all people should be treated with dignity, understanding, respect and without discrimination. We are people helping people strengthen the social fiber of our community.
In addition to weekly hampers for families in need, the food bank supports local school programs for children without food and supplies food for new mothers at risk.
We live in an extremely generous community and the support we receive from both the county residents and town food drives is wonderful. As we continue to grow, that support is required now, more than ever.
Administration is an integral part of any organization. For us that means everything from intake of clients to government reporting, bookkeeping, applying for government grants, etc. The necessary and generous administrative support for this program has been provided by Wheatland Family and Community Social Services (WFCSS) for the past 22 years. Without them we would not have been able to operate the programs we have. In January WFCSS will be relocating to the Wheatland County Administration building and may not be able to provide the same level of support as in the past.
The Wheatland County Food Bank is a separate entity that will continue to provide services to both the County and Town of Strathmore residents. To continue to provide our current level of service and grow as the community grows, it has become clear that we are now in need of permanent part-time administration. We have researched what provincial government grants are available and believe that we will be able to fund this position from those grants. This would allow our organization to remain independent and move forward as needed.
Effective Jan. 15, clients requiring food may contact the Wheatland County Food Bank at (403) 324-4335 from noon to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Application may also be made through the website at www.wheatlandfoodbank.com.
