People often head to Rosebud to take in one, or all, of the performances on the main stage. The community gives the feeling of coming home, of joining old friends for a new adventure. So in light of this, the community is hoping to offer more reasons to join them this year.
“The idea behind all of it is we’re just giving people another reason to come to Rosebud. It’s a different reason, people come for plays and of course some of these are plays,” said Artistic Director for Rosebud Theatre Morris Ertman.
“We’re just offering more of the kinds of stories and music and things that we think really resonate with our audience and we as a company of artists in Rosebud.”
Throughout the year there will be different performances offered on the Opera House stage. Valdy, Gary Fjellgaard and friends will be kicking off their latest tour with a performance in Rosebud on April 9 at 7:30 p.m. Saskia and Darrel will join them for an evening of folk and country music.
Juno award winner Brian Doerkson will be on stage May 15 and 16 at 8 p.m. ‘C.S. Lewis on Stage’ will be on May 17 also at 8 p.m. Tom Key who wrote ‘Cotton Patch Gospel’ will be on stage to share and portray the life of Lewis who is best known for his work ‘The Chronicles of Narnia.’
Comedic relief will follow on May 18 when Panic Squad hits the stage with the sole mission of making people laugh, hard. Last up is ‘Letter from Wingfield Farm’ August 28 to 31. Ertman said it is the quirky story about a guy from the city who moves into a farming community. Of course he doesn’t fit and it’s kind of a crazy new adventure almost daily. He spins these stories about rural living, which end up being printed in newspapers across Canada to the delight of the readers.
Make sure to mark your calendar for the upcoming events so you don’t miss out on everything Rosebud has to offer.
